Le doppie polveri non sono niente male in RBY, perciò Butterfree non è un Pokémon inutilizzabile o un cattivo Pokémon "in assoluto", solo che Exeggutor (in OU), Venomoth e Tangela (in UU) ricoprono un ruolo identico, con migliori typing e statistiche.

Counters
Butterfree è molto fragile, ed il suo Special non è eccezionalmente elevato. Per questo motivo, esaurito il threat degli status, qualsiasi Pokémon non debole a Psychic o 4x a Mega Drain è un counter di Butterfree.
